Today I will be talking about the Dodgers being at the doorsteps of winning the World Series and what this could mean for the city of LA just a couple weeks after the Lakers won their 17th NBA championship. I have always been a huge sports fan and growing up near LA, it was hard not to root for the city’s teams. It was always fun growing up and going to the games with my family and friends. During the summer, it’s been a routine where I’d go to the Dodgers game, hang out with friends, and not have to worry about school. Unfortunately, this year was a little different where instead I cheered on from my couch. Growing up, I remember seeing the Lakers win back to back championships in 2009-2010 and idolizing Kobe. This was such an exciting time for the city and for Lakers fans all over. As I reflect, I haven’t seen the Dodgers win a World Series during my lifetime, but I hope that changes soon. Having both the Dodgers and Lakers win championships in the same year would be such an am...

Book 2 Post 2

The second book I finished reading was American Like Me by America Ferrera. After reading so many great reviews and hearing a lot of great things about the book, I knew I had to read it. Being Latino and a child of immigrants, I was also interested in reading a book that emphasizes the importance of being diverse and embracing different cultures. I wanted to learn more about people’s stories and their experiences in America while also having to manage their family’s culture. I really enjoyed every chapter in the book being a new story from someone new. This made it an enjoyable read. I got a chance to read about different cultures and different perspectives.  I think I was captivated by the book’s overall theme of embracing cultures and diversity and understanding the importance of coming all together as one. Every story focuses on a specific culture and upbringing, but also the way in which the person is able to mix their culture with American culture. I also enjoyed seein...

Book 2 Post 1

The second book I decided to read was American Like Me by America Ferrera. At the beginning of the semester, I was leaning to reading this book, but after reading so many great posts and reviews, I knew this was going to be my second book to read. Being Latino, I come from a diverse background and I know how it feels to live in a mixture of both American and Latino culture. I knew this book would revolve around diversity in America and how people would adjust to try to fit in. This was something that really interested me. I wanted to learn more about people’s stories and be able to relate to them on similar experiences. Knowing that the book was essentially a collection of people’s stories and finding their cultural identity made it much more appealing to read. I wanted to learn about different cultures and learn about the different ways people have gone about adjusting as first-generation Americans.  After starting to read the book and learning about different people’s sto...
