Who You Are Matters
Hi everyone, my name is Pedro Reyes and I come from Arleta which is in the San Fernando Valley. I am a senior in Marshall, so I am looking at different full time opportunities for when I graduate. I had an internship with Abbott this summer working as a finance intern and am currently waiting to see if I get a return offer. After graduating, I aspire to continue working in the finance industry to continue my professional development and to start my career. I am researching and applying to different companies to be able to get the best offer. Once landing a full time job, I will be doing everything I can to prepare myself for when I finally begin to work.
I am grateful to have amazing parents from which I was able to learn a lot from, but the biggest thing I will always remember is their diligence and hard work. My parents have been able to do everything to provide for our family and this has been so impactful for me. Just like them, I try to be just as diligent in everything I do in my life whether it be with my academics or professionally. However, an area where I am unlike my parents is taking risks. My parents have always been a little cautious about things, but I have always wanted to go out and take risks because I know there can be a lot to be gained from. I like to get uncomfortable with trying new things and exploring the unknown.
I have set up my own expectations for myself which actually differ from that of my family’s. My family has always been so great to me and I know regardless of what I do in my career and life, they will always continue to support and encourage me. However, I am much harder on myself on achieving certain goals. I set high expectations for myself and hold myself to a higher standard.
One of my biggest role models has always been Kobe Bryant. The way he played the game with so much passion and hunger for success really inspired me. To see him flourish in another career after retirement and spending time with his family was great and continued to motivate me to do the same with my life.
A wild animal that I have always felt a special connection to has been a lion. There has always been something about the nature of a lion and the way it lives its life in a jungle that has always intrigued me.
Growing up as a small kid, I always had this tree in my backyard that I liked to climb. I only stopped once I got too big, but this is certainly one of the great memories I have of growing up and playing outside.
My rising sign is in 22 degrees Cancer, my moon sign is in 05 degrees Virgo, and my sun sign is in 15 degrees Capricorn.
Your parents sound like great people and it seems like you've learned a lot from them! You definitely have good role models in your life. I wish you luck on getting a return offer.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that you venerate Kobe Bryant and the Lion seem fitting; both are fierce and symbols of strength and honor. He is my favorite player ever and I cried when he died.
ReplyDeleteIn my experience, child from strong, stable families are typically more risk tolerant than those who aren't. Taking chances and having faith in your own abilities is how families advance through the generations.
Mamba forever. Super awesome to hear that you're willing to take risks and push yourself to succeed. I think being diligent and focused is a recipe for success, so I have no doubt that you'll go far. I had a tree like that too as a kid, I loved climbing it and hiding among the branches. The day you realize you're too big to climb any more is a heartbreaker.
ReplyDeleteHey Pedro, it is great to hear that there is another Kobe fan in the class! It feels very coincidental to read and now write about him today, his birthday. Always keep that mamba mentality and I give you the best of luck on receiving your return offer!
ReplyDeleteHi Pedro, I really agree with you on Kobe being my role model. He has shown that dedication and hard work will truly lead to success. Mamba mentality is something I really try to live by and inspire others to follow. I also agree with you on pushing yourself to do things outside of your comfort zone. It's important to have this attitude in order to grow.
ReplyDeleteI respect your attitude about taking risks! I am the same way, and I find that the best things that have happened to me have come out of taking a leap of faith. I wish you the best for your future in finance and I hope you get that return offer!
ReplyDeleteHey Pedro, It's awesome how you have taken the diligent and hard working aspects of your parents and are adding your risk-taking mindset to them. With that combo you'll go far in anything you pursue in life. Also, Kobe Bryant is an amazing choice for a role model and good luck on getting the return offer!
ReplyDeleteI admire what you said about your parents and how you appreciate them for making sacrifices in order to provide you a good life. Also, Kobe is a great role model and motivator so I'm sure following his practices will lead you to great success.
ReplyDeleteKobe Bryant on my mind 8/24. He would have been proud of the show that the Lakers put on tonight, unfortunately I did not have any funds or else I would have taken Lakers moneyline for every quarter.
ReplyDeleteFirst off: no way! Arleta is where I grew up -- Debell Street, off Beachy Avenue, between Branford and Osborne. I played Little League in Branford Park and went to Canterbury Avenue Elementary. Like your classmates, I liked the way you wrote about your family and your own aspirations. You didn't know this when you wrote this post, but as a reminder, don't indent your first lines. Otherwise, good formatting, very readable. Good job.
ReplyDeleteWait -- one more thing. Be careful about over-using words. In your "expectations" and "role model" paragraphs, you used "always" a lot. Keep an eye on that.
