Random Post 2

Today I will be talking about the Dodgers being at the doorsteps of winning the World Series and what this could mean for the city of LA just a couple weeks after the Lakers won their 17th NBA championship. I have always been a huge sports fan and growing up near LA, it was hard not to root for the city’s teams. It was always fun growing up and going to the games with my family and friends. During the summer, it’s been a routine where I’d go to the Dodgers game, hang out with friends, and not have to worry about school. Unfortunately, this year was a little different where instead I cheered on from my couch. Growing up, I remember seeing the Lakers win back to back championships in 2009-2010 and idolizing Kobe. This was such an exciting time for the city and for Lakers fans all over. As I reflect, I haven’t seen the Dodgers win a World Series during my lifetime, but I hope that changes soon.

Having both the Dodgers and Lakers win championships in the same year would be such an amazing feat. The last time the Dodgers won a World Series was in 1988. That was such a long time ago. In fact, that was the last time both the Dodgers and Lakers won a championship in the same year! It’s like it's written in the stars. (cheesy I know) If the Dodgers do win, it would be sad that there wouldn’t be any parades for both teams due to the pandemic. Nonetheless, the city would be thrilled to be a city of champions. It has been over 30 years since the Dodgers have won and it was 10 years until the Lakers finally won a couple weeks ago. These are two historic franchises that should be competing every year. LA has always been known for Hollywood, the palm trees, and beaches, but it can finally have winning sports teams again! Hoping that things go back to normal sometime next year, it would be great to go to their games while being the current champions of their sport.

It would be exciting for LA sports fans to see both the Dodgers and Lakers win in the same year, especially with how crazy 2020 has been. Things are more nerve-wracking for the Dodgers because they have been in this same situation before. This is their 3rd World Series in four years! With the team currently having the lead in the series, they know they’re so close but still need one more win. It’s not often when a city has two major sports teams win in the same year. I remember how happy I got when the Lakers won, so I can only imagine how happy I’ll be along with all the other Dodgers fans if the Dodgers win. I also went ahead and bought Lakers NBA champs gear, so I’ll probably be doing the same if the Dodgers win this week.  Yes, I say if because I don’t want to jinx them! It definitely is an exciting time to be a sports fan in LA after so long. Hopefully, other teams in LA can do the same like LAFC and USC's football team. As I finish writing this post, I really hope the Dodgers can win it all in the next couple of days and make Dodgers fans happy everywhere!

  1. This was a fitting first post for me to comment on since I just wrote my random post about how cursed my Atlanta sports teams are. Hopefully the Dodgers don't collapse like the Braves just did against them in the NLCS, because it would be awesome to experience two championships in a year here. Nice job!

  2. Hey Pedro, I'm not a baseball fan but I am a huge Lakers fan and am just as happy as you are. It's great to see the Lakers win a championship with everything the organisation and fanbase went through earlier this year. Also, I think I'm going to start paying attention to the Dodgers for the rest of the world series just to see whether Los Angeles can bring back two championships this year.

  3. Hi Pedro, seeing how you based your random post on the Dodgers and Lakers, I had to comment on this, especially after tonight! Despite 2020 being a crazy year, I'm very happy for LA as we took home two championships this year! Therefore, I'm sure you're very happy right now, so congratulations!

  4. Hi Pedro, well you didn't jinx yourself! It is so amazing seeing how LA is celebrating the Dodgers win. I've seen so many fireworks and heard so much honking when they won. I love how sports really brings a city together. When the Lakers won and then again when the Dodgers won, I couldn't help but feel proud and hopeful. 2020 has sucked, but at least LA sports is doing well. Let's hope it continues with USC football.

  5. Well they did it! We are NBA champs and World Series champs; Los Angeles is truly the city of champions! I give LeBron his due. Like you, I loved Kobe Bryant. It would be difficult (or impossible) to transfer that allegiance to LeBron James. However, after I heard LeBron speak at Kobe's memorial service at the Staples Center, my feelings began to change. LeBron really is a great guy and a wonderful player. He's not my favorite, but hey, he brought AD and a banner back to Los Angeles. What's not to like?

I love the Lakers, but I reallllly love the Dodgers; that's my team! I can't tell you how happy I was. I didn't go to Dodger Stadium like my homies, but I lit fireworks off in the street with my neighbor and drank vodka. It was subdued, but so has all of 2020.

In 20 years, I imagine ESPN or Netflix will make a documentary about Los Angeles sports and 2020. The election, George Floyd, and COVID-19 will have be featured. Too much content -- a docuseries format would be better. I can't wait to watch it and remember this terrible/awesome year in hindsight.
