World We Imagine Pt 1

I think in order to make the world a better place, it has to start with us humans. Before we start to focus on things like education, jobs, and other resources, it is important that we first realize in order to make the world a better place, we have to tackle the root problem: ourselves. When I say this, I mean the relationship people have with one another and the notion of equality. The world can’t be a better place if we don’t learn how to eradicate things like racism, stereotypes, and inequalities. This has to be the first step. The first step has to be to understand basic human rights and the importance of truly making everyone “created equal to every human being on the planet”. This has been a saying that has gone on for many years, but there’s no validity to it. We have seen people constantly attacked and mistreated for the color of their skin, the language they speak, or for the way they behave. The first step to make the world a better place has to be to teach and help human beings understand to embrace diversity, respect people of all different cultures and backgrounds, and give equality to all in terms of rights, resources, and opportunities.

As the quote says “we have only one world for all of us on earth”, so there is no need for division. As we have seen racism and the lack of inequalities for all have been the root cause for a lot of the violence and hatred we see today. This has created great division not only in the US but in different parts of the world. The world and society itself cannot move forward to make itself better when these types of issues continue to exist. This causes hatred amongst people and we can’t move forward as a society having groups of people display this hate towards one another. We need to learn to embrace all human beings for who they are and think about all the great things we can learn from one another. The possibilities can be endless if we learn to work together and create solutions that help everyone. This is what can help people become a “true global citizen”.

By focusing on this issue and working to solve this problem, we can all make the world a better place. This is the first thing that has to be done before moving into more complex problems such as education for all and housing just to name a few. Once the world is able to embrace diversity and in fact give everyone equality, then it would be time to move forward to tackle bigger problems in the world. Like the quote says, there’s a whole future that is ours, but we can’t build a great future if the world remains constantly divided. Once together, humanity can work together to focus on things such as education, housing, and employment to continue making the world a better place.

  1. Hi Pedro, I completely agree that equality is arguably the most important thing in making the world a better place. As you pointed out in the blog, many violence and hatred all originated from inequality in human rights. I believe tackling the problem through improving our awareness toward the issue and consciously reminding ourselves to treat everyone with equality and dignity is the first step toward moving forward as a society.

  2. I completely agree that equality is the most important thing towards establishing a cooperative world. We are stronger together as a human race. What's so backwards about all of the forms of discrimination faced around the world is how similar we all are with regards to one another, and yet we let microscopic differences get in the way of our acceptance of this fact. Race, gender, and cultural differences might make us seem foreign to one another, but in reality deep down we all want a sense of security and a better future for ourselves and our families. I think that as humans, we should reshape our idea of competition. Rather than competing against ourselves, and driving division, we should try to compete against our past and let the equitable future of the human race be a shared accomplishment of all.

  3. Pedro! I love this! I completely agree that there is too large of a divide between people right now, and we need to learn to come together as one population. I touched on this in my piece, but we need to bridge the gaps between political alignment, gender, race, and economic status.

For a next step towards making a world of equality and respect, I'll challenge you to make small changes every day to be the change you want to see! I respect your commitment to awareness and internal understanding of others' differences, but for the pitch I'd love to see you emphasize how we can encourage the people around us to be just as accepting!
